Domaine de L´Écu are working without chemical and oenological preparetes since always. Their wines are true reflection of the terroir.
They také care of 24 hectares of vineyards surrounding small town Landreau, part of the appellation Muscadet Sévre et Maine in Loire valley. They gained first certification in organic agriculture in 1975. Since 1998 they are certified in biodynamics by Demeter. In 2014 they gained Biodyvin certification. They are member of association called Renaissance d´Appelations, whose aim is to return respect for nature and terroir into winemaking and appellation systems.
„Under impression of triumphing modern oenology (good or bad, decide for yourselves) we keep forgetting that the great wine comes from the vineyard. Wine is born from labouring the soil, pruning, careful reduction of yield, manual harvest and respect of biotope. In the cellar we abandonned all technological conveniences. We do not wish to make standardised wines. Our wines express unique terroir and vintage. We do not add sulfites to our wines at all or only minimum amount when we feel the wine requires it. Total sulfites in our wines are around 30 – 40 mg/l , that is less than a half of the amount alowed by Demeter (90mg/l).“
