Azienda Agricola Cascina Gentile
Located in the province of Alessandria, including area of Ovada and Gavi DOCG, less than an hour’s drive from Genoa, on the road linking Capriata d’Orba to Saint Christopher, the winery “Cascina Gentile ” with its five acres vineyards produce three generations wines with denomination of origin typical of the place. Everything began in the early sixties when Giovanni Gentile, farmer, planted his future vineyards in an area of Capriata d’Orba particularly suited to wine production: “the Gazzolo”. With the construction of the dwelling and the winery, overlooking the vineyards, the company took the name of “Cascina Gentile” and began selling bottled wines using, since then, the flourishing of the certification designation of origin. In 1984 his son Giuseppe took over the company and improves the wine-making systems as well as those of grape production by adhering to the plans for integrated production faces to the environment by restricting the use of synthetic chemicals, always in constant search of authenticity and the quality of products. Since 2009 the ownership and management of the company have been entrusted to his nephew Daniele Oddone degree in viticulture and enology after graduating from the prestigious and historic Wine School of Alba, which aims to maintain the traditional spirit of the house wine though introducing new production techniques and winemaking. From 2015 the winery also manages an estate near Tortona where the vintage 2015 was got the first Timorasso availing of the prestigious DOC Colli Tortonesi Derthona.
Today, the company covers about eighteen hectares of which ten vineyards produce grapes from which according to the techniques of integrated production but excluding all synthetic chemicals, chemical fertilizers and herbicides. All the wines made exclusively with grapes from vineyards make use of designations of origin which controlled Gavi, Ovada and Barbera del Monferrato. Among the wines that are aged for at least 18 months in oak barrels are Ovada DOCG and Barbera del Monferrato DOC “Barberrique”. Always with firm grapes are produced two quality sparkling wines with the classic method in bottle for at least 30 months (one based white Cortese and a rosé “Barbabianca” based Barbera) and a sweet wine made with Cortese aging in barrels oak for 18 months. The winery enrolled at FIVI (Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers) and then we follow every step of production, from grape cultivation to the finished bottle, all strictly on the farm and using only their own grapes.
